Pop-Ups in the fishing world

The origin of these baits

There is evidence of home-made floating baits around 1980 in England. Andy Little was making his first boilie tests with a polystyrene core, as well as Bob Baker, Rod Hutchinson and a few other practitioners on the grassy grounds of Savay Lake. The first publications in Carpworld were discovered and very quickly different methods were developed to float the pop-ups. As it often happens, some discoveries were made by chance: the fisherman who had put too much shrimp shell meal in his mix had the unpleasant surprise to see all his boilies remain on the surface when he baited!
The calcium carbonate, the main component of this flour, had created micro-bubbles during the cooking of the boilies and had made them less dense than water. Other techniques also appeared, such as the use of cork flour, cooking in microwaves etc.

And if the names of carp fishing legends are associated with the use of pop-ups, it is not by chance. In many situations the floating boilies are formidable weapons, to carry out a presentation just above a carpet of weeds, on very muddy funds, or simply to position an isolated boilie in the zone of evolution of the carps, which let us recall it are extremely curious and opportunistic fish.

Current use

Specific to the use of pop-ups, many rigs have been developed (Blowback rid, D-rig, Spinner rig, Chod rig...). They are used most of the time when fishing is complicated, for example in early spring with single hook baits, or in the middle of summer when the water is very hot and carp are not feeding much. A single pop-up presented at the height of the fish passage can then bring a large number of starts, when all other technical approaches fail.

But it is also possible to associate them with other baits on the same rig to balance a presentation. In this case, the aim is to obtain a density of the "hook + bait" set close to that of the water. When sucked in by the carp, this lighter rig will naturally go faster and further into the carp's mouth, ensuring a better anchorage of the hook and reducing the number of dropouts. To achieve this, pop-ups can be combined with seeds (cheat rig) or boilies (snowman rig).

To make "Snowman" type presentations, nothing could be simpler: just add a 15 mm pop-up to a dense 20 mm boilie, and that's it! The balancing is perfect, instantly! The dense boilie will compensate very precisely for the buoyancy of the pop-up, and it is therefore no longer necessary to cut small pieces of boilie or to fiddle with lead paste to be positioned on the braid of the leader.

SEEZONE pop-ups are not just flavoured expanded beads. Believing in the attractiveness of ingredients with a high diffusion power and very appreciated by carps, we have largely integrated them in our formulations. Amongst others, we find liver hydrolysates, amino blend or tigernuts flour, but also MPG based flavours, identical to those found in dense boilies. So it's not just the visual signal that counts! By using very selected ingredients we have worked a lot on the quality of the chemical message diffused in the water, and to which the carps are very receptive.

Brightly coloured without being flashy (white, yellow, pink, orange), their buoyancy is guaranteed for a minimum of 24 hours. The pop-ups are delivered in a jar with a barrier lid to prevent oxidation of the ingredients and guarantee the freshness of the pop-ups.
